Pronghorn

Know the animal and habitat
Pronghorn are animals of open grassland, prairie and sage country. Long sightlines, wind and limited approach cover shape the hunt.
Identification comes first
Learn pronghorn identification and the current legal animal definition for your licence. Use optics to make the decision before beginning the final stalk.
How the habitat changes the hunt
Open country can create the illusion that a distant animal is an invitation to shoot. Terrain folds, patience and positioning can often reduce distance substantially.
Before the shot
Wind uncertainty grows with time of flight and distance. A flat trajectory helps with some range error but does not remove wind, stability or first-shot accuracy from the decision.
Recovery and use
Open terrain may simplify visibility but heat can make meat care urgent. Have cooling and transport plans appropriate to the season.
