Know the animal and habitat
‘Small game’ is a legal and practical category rather than one animal. Rabbits, hares, squirrels and other species have different habitats, seasons and local definitions.
Identification comes first
Identify the exact species first. Similar animals can have different seasons or protection, and the term small game should never replace species-level identification.
