Canada Hunting Regulations
Hunting rules in Canada are jurisdiction-specific and can change by season. Use this page as a verification checklist, then confirm the current rules with the responsible provincial, territorial and federal authorities before hunting.
Start with the province or territory
Confirm the current licence, species, season, management-unit, method and reporting requirements for the exact place you intend to hunt. Do not assume a rule from another province, territory or previous season applies.
Check federal rules where they apply
Some hunting is also governed by federal requirements. Migratory game birds are an important example: federal summaries are published for each province and territory and include season, bag-limit and permit information.

Regulations can change. Check the current official publication close to the hunt and again if your plans change by date, species or location.
Know the exact place
Management units, special areas, parks, municipal boundaries, private land and access rules can change what is permitted. A province-wide summary is not enough when local restrictions apply.
Keep proof and required documents
Carry the licences, permits, tags or other documentation required by the applicable authority, and understand any validation, reporting or harvest-record duties before the hunt.
Legality is the starting point
A lawful opportunity still leaves practical and ethical decisions about identification, shot conditions, recovery and meaningful use. Regulations establish legal boundaries; they do not replace judgment.
